Research

 
His scientific activity is strongly connected to few MeV ion beams as basic experimetal tool. From 1967 to 1975 he was devoted to measure magnetic moments of nuclear states using Coulomb excitation and the perturbed angular distribution method. In the last 30 years he was mainly engaged in using of the accelerator in solving biological, biochemical, biomedical problems, contribution to the preservation of cultural heritage (nondestructive analysis of art and archaeological objects) specially by particle induced X-ray emission (PIXE), analysis by nuclear reactions and radioisotope excited X-ray fluorescence. His most important results in this field:
 
 - The first demonstration of the applicability of the sharp resonance in the 16O(α,α)16O elastic scattering at ~ 3.045 MeV bombarding energy for the sensitive detection of Oxygen surface layers
 
 - The development and application of the PIXE-RP method (PIXE analysis related to protein content of the sample measured simultaneously by nuclear reaction).
 
 - Proposing and developing a unique ion beam techniques for location and quantification of metal ions in proteins separated by thin layer electrophoresis (PIXE-PAGE, simultaneous PIXE and PIGE analysis).
 
 - Development and application of external-beam PIXE spectroscopy and mobile XRF spectrometers for non-destructive analyses of cultural heritage objects.
